Jeannette Schickel’s smile is rather contagious. Small of stature, she often helped out her parents at their “ferme-auberge,” at Eschbach-au-Val while growing up. Welcoming is her second nature.
Professionally, from accountant she shifted to childcare before taking care of her two children, and those of the neighborhood, full time. Other than being a member of all the associations in the village, her life’s work, and her passion, is the transmission of the Alsatian dialect. Concretely, she has been giving lessons in Alsatian to children for the past twelve years, nine for adults. Should we mention that she has had success? Jeannette, who everyone affectionately calls “Janala” manages a gîte. Her renters have the singular chance of becoming her friends and being introduced to the innumerable charms of this Alsatian valley.
